Recreational
Our recreational program is for dancers 5 yrs+ who are only interested in dancing for fun and fitness.

We understand that love of dance does not always mean a love of performance, and that not all children want to compete and perform on the big stage!
Dancers in the recreational program generally attend
1 - 2 classes per week and classes are focussed upon correct technique and learning new steps and routines.

Recreational dancers do still participate in our end of year concert, so that they get a chance to show what they have learnt during the year!
Pre-School Dance
Our Hop, Skip, Jump! Pre-School Dance Program is designed to introduce young children to the basic skills needed for dance through a fun and safe class environment.
This class is aimed at children 3 - 5 years of age who are starting their dance journey and are still learning and developing their ability to balance, hop on one foot, skip and participate in a structured class.

Children are expected to transition out of this class during the year, or at the end of the year, they turn 5.
Performance
Our performance program is for dancers 5 yrs+ who are not interested in competitions but do love to perform on stage. As a school, Phoenix Dance QLD participates in a number of community events across the year including the Mudgeeraba Show and the Gold Coast Multi-Cultural Festival.
Dancers in the performance program generally attend
1 - 2 classes per week and classes are focussed upon correct technique and learning new steps and routines, as well as some special group performance pieces.

If dancers in the performance program commit to attending an event, it is expected they will be at all practices to ensure the group is able to rehearse together.
Competition
Phoenix Dance QLD's competitive stream is the main focus of the school. In Australia, Irish Dancing is primarily a competitive sport and dancers train as elite athletes to compete at State, National and International events. Our Queensland Irish Dance Association holds a number of events throughout the year for our community where dancers and families from all schools come together to participate.

Participating in competitions is a great way to improve your child's skills and confidence as well as teaching them about sportsmanship, resilience and being part of a team. Beginner and Primary dancers are able to compete at all events held locally in Queensland, while Championship dancers can travel to attend interstate and international events if they meet qualification requirements.

Competitive classes have a strong emphasis on technique and performance skills and, as dancers progress through the levels, increased strength, stamina and flexibility to ensure they are performing at their best.

Children interested in competing must attend a minimum of 2 classes per week at beginner and primary levels, and 3 classes per week for Championship levels.
